The Friends of the Braumart Board of Directors is made up of representatives of several local cultural and arts groups, as well as members of the business community and government. Board members range in age from 27 to “over 70” and bring a wide variety of skills and abilities to the organization.
Jinx Brew Ms. Brew, Friends of the Braumart board member since inception, is currently serving her third term as President. She is retired from small business management and ownership (23 years); retired president of food manufacturing company (16 years) and currently employed as floral designer (14 years). She is a past Board member of Iron Mountain Downtown Development Authority; past chairperson of the Main Street Promotion Committee and Farmers and Artisans Market board member. She is an active member of the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Women’s Club (GFWC) and member Dickinson County Community Theatre since 1979, where she was past president and board member. Ms. Brew chairs the Event Booking Committee for the Friends of the Braumart.
Audrey Smith Ms. Smith has been a member of Friends of the Braumart since its inception and served two consecutive terms (6 years) as Secretary. As treasurer, she is responsible for maintaining all financial records and meeting all state and federal reporting requirements for the organization. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Michigan, a Master of Architecture from the University of Texas and a secondary science teaching certification. She has been instrumental in planning for a more functional theater. She is actively involved in Community Theatre and has served several terms as Treasurer and Secretary. She is an appointed member of the Dickinson County Library Board and a member of Borderland Arts and the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Women's Club (GFWC). She is chair of the Newsletter Committee and assists with grant writing.
Tim Haagensen Mr. Haagensen joined the Board of the Friends of the Braumart in 2013, seizing the opportunity to pursue his interest in the arts and to volunteer in his adopted community. Originally from Milwaukee, WI, Tim came to the Iron Mountain, MI area in 2011. After attending UW-Milwaukee and Milwaukee Area Technical College, he joined an apprenticeship for utility engineering and obtained his journeyman's card in 2011. He is employed by We Energies. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America, and was a member of Triangle Fraternity from the UW-Milwaukee chapter, where he served as vice-president, president, and alumni secretary. Mr. Haagensen currently serves as secretary on the board of directors of the Dickinson County Community Theatre and his employer's Employee Mutual Benefit Association. He chairs the Building Maintenance and Social Media Committees for the Friends of the Braumart.
Theodore Izzo Mr. Izzo joined the board of the Friends of the Braumart in mid-2013. He graduated from Northern Michigan University in the spring of 2012 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Art & Design with a concentration in Digital Cinema and a Minor in English Writing. He has been actively involved with the Dickinson County Community Chorus, Dickinson County Community Theatre (both on and off the stage) and has volunteered with DDA/Main Street for Italian Fest. He chairs the Film Equipment Committee. He is employed as an Advertising Executive with the Daily News.
Barbara Kramer Ms. Kramer served as treasurer for the Friends of the Braumart Board of Directors since its inception until the end of 2015. She holds a Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling and specialized in ADA accessibility issues and job development. She was employed in the Wisconsin Technical College system. She earned a Professional Certificate in Arts Management from UMass-Amherst in 2010. She is a member of the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Women’s Club. She served on the DDA/Main Street board of directors for eight years as secretary; she was president of the Northwoods Garden Club. Ms. Kramer is currently serving her second term as Dickinson County Commissioner. Her interests include economic development and promoting art and recreational opportunities. She chairs the Grants and Development Committees for the Friends of the Braumart. Mrs. Kramer resides in Iron Mountain.
Dr. Nelson Hassell, O.D. Dr. Hassell holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology and a Minor in Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. He received his Doctor of Optometry degree in 1986 from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. He has owned and operated his business for 25 years. Dr. Hassell is a Vision USA Volunteer and an Infant See Volunteer and serves on the board of the State Bank of Florence. He chairs the Board Recruitment Committee for the Friends of the Braumart. He has been an active supporter of the arts and has used his marketing skills to help to raise awareness for the Braumart project.
Lynn Hitt Ms. Hitt joined the Friends of the Braumart in 2015. Ms. Hitt is the Volunteer Coordinator for the Friends of the Braumart; her primary tasks are to recruit volunteers, provide orientations, and schedule volunteers for events and projects. She is an active member in our community, working with DDA events like Italian Fest, Out to Lunch and Oktoberfest. She works for a national telemarketing firm.
Fay Mannon-Rahoi, Board Member. Ms. Manon-Rahoi was elected to the board in 2015. She is owner of CCM 2000, a consulting company with international clients which introduces new alloy products for specific applications in the metal industry. She graduated from Marshall University in Huntington, WV. Ms. Rahoi is a member of professional organizations related to her work: NACE, ASME, ASTM and AWS. She is a member of Kiwanis, Northwoods Garden Club and GFWC. Her role with the Friends of the Braumart involves project management, team building and marketing and she chairs the Community Outreach Committee.
Duane Peck, Board Member Emeritus. Mr. Peck was instrumental in the formation of the Friends of the Braumart, and was a board member until 2015. He has nearly 65 years in theater arts as designer, actor, director, producer and teacher. He earned a degree from Eastern Michigan University and pursued graduate studies at University of Wisconsin. His significant body of work includes both professional and amateur levels with awards in international competitions. He is well-rounded in production and business management of theater and continues to advise and consult with the current board on various projects on an as-needed basis.
