Friends of the Braumart and Iron Mountain DDA/Main Street are teaming up to present Scott Helmer in concert at the Braumart in Iron Mountain on April 24, 2015. This musical gala supports the restoration of the historic Braumart movie house and the expansion of downtown revitalization efforts.

Imagine life as a professional musician traveling around the country with the goal of raising a million dollars for good causes. That’s Scott Helmer. Helmer is an independent touring and recording artist who has opened up for iconic acts such as Eddie Money, Heart, 3 Doors Down and Big Country. He is spending an entire year traveling over 25,000 miles and performing more than 200 concerts across America to support historic theatres and other non-profit groups. The highlight of our gala event will be Helmer’s upbeat, energetic, solo acoustic set of rock and country favorites, along with catchy, radio-friendly original material from his new CD “Wake Me When It’s Over”. His contagious tunes will have you on your feet wanting more.

We’re counting on you, the members of Friends of the Braumart, to buy tickets and support this event. Get ready for a fun-filled, musical gala which includes a 5 to 7pm Social Hour reception with delicious appetizers, many door prizes, 50/50 raffle, silent auction, concessions and a cash bar. The benefit and silent auction is supported by very generous local businesses and community-minded individuals. This is our main fundraiser of the year.

Mark your calendar for April 24th. Advance tickets are $50 and are available at the Dickinson Area Chamber Alliance on Stephenson Avenue and from FOTB and IMDDA/MS board members and volunteers, and on the FOTB website. Tickets will be available at the door for $75. More information is available at www.scotthelmer.com, www.cityofironmountain.com, and www.friendsofthebraumart.org. This promises to be an amazing event and it supports two great causes. Please join us!
New Website!
Speaking of www.friendsofthebraumart.com, we recently revamped our entire website. It’s sharper, more concise, and better than ever! Be sure to check it out! You can purchase tickets for the Scott Helmer Gala and make your 2015 donation to FOTB if you haven’t already. By the way, if you have any historic photos of the Braumart, especially of the interior, we’d love to see them. Contact us at info@friendsofthebraumart.org.
Gordon Lightfoot Tribute
Gordon Lightfoot’s melodies captured the feeling of “Up North” living, and 2015 marks the 40th anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald, a part of our U.P. heritage. On July 12, “Whispers of the North – The Gordon Lightfoot Tribute” will perform on the Braumart Stage. This band will take you on a visual and acoustic trip from the Great Lakes to the Canadian Rockies with the hit songs “Sundown,” “Beautiful,” “Carefree Highway,” “If You Could Read My Mind,” and of course the haunting ballad “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.” Come join us for an evening of folk, country and popular music and experience the culture of the woods, the lakes, lost loves and broken hearts.

FOTB is currently raising funds for a down payment on the property and your help is needed! The Braumart turns 90 years old in 2015. With your help, it will be a highlight of Downtown Iron Mountain for another 90 years!
