Dr. Robert Miller / Call for Nominations
Sep 2012
Dear friends,

Don’t miss our next fundraiser: Dr. Robert Miller’s piano concert “Music of Spain” on Thursday, October 4, at the First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford:
Dr. Miller is a native of Iron Mountain-Kingsford (son of the late Walter and Tillie Miller), who has gained international acclaim for his artistic approach to classical piano.  He is Distinguished Professor of Music Emeritus at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania, where he is Artistic Director of the Carter Chamber Music Series.  He earned a bachelor of music degree from the University of Michigan and master’s and doctoral degrees from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University.  A former faculty member of the Interlochen Center for the Arts, Miller has made numerous solo, chamber, and concerto appearances throughout North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia.  Fresh off a South American tour, he brings his unique talent, interpretation and musical expression back to this area.  We are so lucky to have him!
Tickets are $20 and available at the Dickinson Area Partnership AND at the door.  Show starts at 7:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church on Hamilton Avenue in Kingsford on Thursday, October 4. All proceeds will benefit Friends of the Braumart.

Annual Election:
Three board positions will be up for election in October.  This is an exciting time for the Braumart project!  We need people with insight and good judgment as we go forward!  The term of office will be three years (November 2012 to October 2015).  We are accepting nominations from any member to serve on the Board of Directors.  If you would like to nominate someone for the Board, or if you are interested yourself, please submit the candidate’s responses to the following three questions by Monday, October 15.
  1. Why are you interested in serving on the Friends of the Braumart Board of Directors?
  2. What skills and experience do you bring to the Board?
  3. What do you feel are the biggest challenges facing the Friends of the Braumart in the next three years?
You may email your responses to info@friendsofthebraumart.org or mail them to the address at the top of this page.  Please limit your responses to approximately 300 words total. These responses will appear on the ballot.  Our Annual Membership Meeting will be 7:00 PM, October 16, at the Braumart (our office is on the second floor).  Nominations for the Board will be accepted at the meeting.  After the October 16 meeting, nominations will be closed and the ballot will be mailed to all current Friends of the Braumart members.
Current Board Members:
President: Jinx Brew;  Vice President: Duane Peck;  Treasurer: Barbara Kramer;  Secretary: Audrey Carlson;
Board Members At Large: Shanna Champeau, Sally Jacobs, Robin Tchokreff.
Our Mission Statement:
Our mission is to develop the historic Braumart Theater into a dynamic center which embraces all arts and artists, and provides cultural, educational and economic stimulus for the area.
We’ve started!
Last Fall, FOTB kicked off a $75,000 fundraising effort.  This amount will help guide the development of the future Braumart Arts Center by paying for two phases of the Theater Redevelopment Feasibility Study and for the services of Panas Linzy & Partners, fundraising and marketing consultants.
On September 4, FOTB board members met with representatives from Engberg Anderson, the firm selected to conduct the Theater Redevelopment Feasibility Study.  They are starting the Architectural, Engineering, and Structural Analysis of the building.  When this study is complete, we will have a historical and aesthetic report, facility cost analysis, a refined conceptual design reflecting our desired uses for the building, and other critical documents and ideas which will move the project forward.
We have a long way to go before we reach the $75,000 needed to complete all three studies.  If you haven’t already done so, please make a donation for our Theater Redevelopment Feasibility Study.  Thank you for your continued support!
Integrys Energy Services: Another way you can support FOTB
Integrys Energy Services and the Dickinson Area Partnership have developed a gas choice offering for any current natural gas customers in good account standing with either Consumers Energy or MichCon (DTE).  By selecting Integrys as your alternative supplier for natural gas through the Michigan Gas Customer Choice program, you will receive a pre-negotiated discounted rate on your natural gas use.  This discounted rate is below Integrys’ standard rate, which has historically measured favorably against comparable utility rates.
Upon your enrollment, you will be a participant in the Integrys gas customer choice program.  For every enrollee who enrolls for a 12-month term, Integrys will donate $25 to the Friends of the Braumart on your behalf!  To sign up or for more information, please contact Teresa Louys at 906-396-4148, or visit the enrollment site at www.integrysenergy.com/dap.
