Thank you for your support in 2015!
Your support of Friends of the Braumart is making a difference in the Iron Mountain area. Our plan is to make the Braumart Theatre a place that showcases and supports all art forms, from fine arts to film screenings to theater, from live music to dance. The 90-year-old Braumart Theatre is a place that was once grand and spectacular. A place that reminds us of where we came from and what we can be. It was where the community came together every night – and it can bring excitement, entertainment and enrichment to our area once again.
We’re on the brink of something great:
This is an exciting time - FOTB is currently working with local financial institutions to obtain financing for the purchase of the building and to cover initial renovations. Once we purchase the building, we will work to make the building comfortable and inviting. Tasks will include replacing the roof, thoroughly cleaning the building, repairing the existing marquee, making cosmetic changes in the lobby, improving the lighting, ensuring that the existing heating and cooling systems are operational, and adding an accessible restroom on the ground floor.
But we can’t do it without your help. It will take significant volunteer effort to bring the Braumart back to its former glory. Teams of people will be needed to clean the building and we will need professionals to make changes to the building itself. And, obviously, the project will need financial support. But the payoff will be great – a home for the arts in downtown Iron Mountain! Will you help us?
In 2015:
FOTB produced several successful events during the past year. In April, Friends of the Braumart and Iron Mountain DDA/Main Street teamed up to present a gala event: Scott Helmer in concert at the Braumart, with local favorites Norton and Chartier opening the show. On July 12, “Whispers of the North - The Gordon Lightfoot Tribute”, a five-piece band from Mackinaw City, performed an amazing show on the Braumart Stage. In August, FOTB put on the Third Annual Mostra D’Arte Art Exhibition to support the fine arts in our area. In September, a standing room only crowd witnessed the premier of “Northbound”, the web series from Northstar that was filmed entirely in the U.P. of Michigan!

Full house: “Northbound” screening at the Braumart on September 11, 2015.
